What is The HAMMER TRINITY?
The Hammer Trinitiy is a trilogy by playwrights Nathan Allen and Chris Mathews currently being produced by The House Theatre of Chicago and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. This three part fantasy epic contains magic, love, action and adventure as it follows numerous characters pursuing life, liberty and happiness in a parallel proto-America.
What is a "parallel proto-America?"
Well, just like King Arthur ruled over a mythical magical version of the United Kingdom, the Land in The Hammer Trinity resembles a mythical magical United States of America.
So It's like King Arthur, but set in America?
Totally. We actually draw a lot from King Arthur thematically too, but with some specifically American twists.
First and foremost because it makes for a great story. And second, because this parallel proto-America gives us a chance to question and explore our American Identity in mythological terms, or without the politics confusing things. Take it from John Ronald:
"I cordially dislike allegory in all its manifestations, and always have done so since I grew old and wary enough to detect its presence. I much prefer history, true or feigned, with its varied applicability to the thought and experience of readers. I think that many confuse 'applicability' with 'allegory'; but the one resides in the freedom of the reader, and the other in the purposed domination of the author."

What if I didn't see parts one and two? Can I still come?
Absolutely! The vast majority of audiences say they have no problem following along if they missed earlier installments. We're even producing all three of the plays at once--you can come see all of them, right in a row, in a marathon performance!
That said, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the resources in this site so you can dive headfirst into the adventure wherever you begin it.
